This is not really a new song, as you probably can tell by the copyright date. I wrote "Everything a Spokane Boy Could Need" for Night Whale, but we rarely performed it and the song was never considered for any Night Whale recordings. Still, I sort of like the thing - it might make it onto a disk yet! Back in 1956, my dad brought home a 1949 4-door Plymouth Special Delux
. Keeping it's green paint shiny was a family job ... that's me waxing the

| It was THE family car for a number of years, transporting our growing
tribe on many wonderful adventures. Despite the fact that I never actually owned
the thing (my dad always kept the title), it pretty much became my car
after I learned to drive. When I left home to join the Navy, we sold it to
a high school friend of mine.
Years later, on a Sunday afternoon, I was reminiscing with Kris (my bride) about the adventures I had in that old car. I actually thought about tracking it down, perhaps even trying to buy it back from it's current owner. That's when Kris broke the news that the old "Green Hornet" had been wrecked in a ditch late one Friday night. Darn, you just can't go back in time! I did the only thing I could do and wrote a tribute song. Okay, anthropomorphizing inanimate objects is a little twisted ... but it's a fun song! |
